Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 100 g oat flake — (preferably mountain, not instant)
  • 400 ml milk — (or plant-based milk - oat, almond)
  • 100 ml water
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 pcs apple — (e.g. Grey Reinette or Gala)
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 pcs walnut — (for sprinkling) A handful

Instructions

Preparation

  1. 1

In a saucepan, bring the milk and water to a boil with a pinch of salt. When it starts to boil, pour in the oatmeal.

  2. 2

Cook over low heat, stirring regularly, for 5-7 minutes, until the flakes soften and the whole thing thickens to a creamy consistency.

  3. 3

In the meantime, peel the apples, remove the cores and cut into cubes.

  4. 4

In a second pan, melt the butter. Add the apples, honey and half of the cinnamon. Fry over medium heat for 4-5 minutes, until the apples soften and lightly caramelize.

  5. 5

Transfer the oatmeal to bowls. Top with caramelized apples, sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon and nuts.

Notes

Tip: How to achieve perfect creaminess? The longer you cook the oatmeal, stirring it constantly, the creamier the consistency you will get. This is the effect of the gradual release of starch from the flakes. Variations on the theme of taste:
  • Instead of an apple, try using diced pear.
  • Add a handful of dried cranberries for a tart contrast.
  • Enrich the flavor with a spoonful of your favorite peanut butter.
  • Chocolate version? Pour a tablespoon of cocoa into the cooking.

Oatmeal tastes best freshly prepared. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days; before serving, add a tablespoon of milk and gently heat.
