Warming Fruity Symphony: Oatmeal with Caramelized Apple and Cinnamon

- 100 g oat flake — (preferably mountain, not instant)
- 400 ml milk — (or plant-based milk - oat, almond)
- 100 ml water
- 1 pinch salt
- 2 pcs apple — (e.g. Grey Reinette or Gala)
- 1 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 pcs walnut — (for sprinkling) A handful

In a saucepan, bring the milk and water to a boil with a pinch of salt. When it starts to boil, pour in the oatmeal.

Cook over low heat, stirring regularly, for 5-7 minutes, until the flakes soften and the whole thing thickens to a creamy consistency.

In the meantime, peel the apples, remove the cores and cut into cubes.

In a second pan, melt the butter. Add the apples, honey and half of the cinnamon. Fry over medium heat for 4-5 minutes, until the apples soften and lightly caramelize.

Transfer the oatmeal to bowls. Top with caramelized apples, sprinkle with the remaining cinnamon and nuts.
Notes
- Instead of an apple, try using diced pear.
- Add a handful of dried cranberries for a tart contrast.
- Enrich the flavor with a spoonful of your favorite peanut butter.
- Chocolate version? Pour a tablespoon of cocoa into the cooking.
Oatmeal tastes best freshly prepared. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days; before serving, add a tablespoon of milk and gently heat.
